Prior to taking up his current position in June 2012, he was Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. In that role he had responsibility for all UK policy towards, and operations in, 19 countries from Morocco to Iran, and led the UK’s response to the Arab Spring. |

Between 1997 and 2008 he held various positions in the Foreign Office, the Cabinet Office and 10 Downing Street, variously as Private Secretary to Prime Minister Gordon Brown, in Prime Minister Tony Blair’s Strategy Unit, as Secretary to the Economic & Domestic Committees of Cabinet, and as First Secretary in the British Embassy in Washington from 2002-2006. |
